Undergraduate Support

Frances Ferris Hall Fund for Undergraduate Research

The Center for the Center for the Study of the American South announces the establishment of the Frances Ferris Hall Fund to support research by UNC-CH undergraduates on women in the American South. Up to two (2) awards of $500 each will be made each spring for use in the subsequent fiscal year.

The award will support research by undergraduates in any department of the university who are studying questions related to women in the American South, broadly defined. Projects connected to thesis work, honors or major course projects, or independent study for credit are preferred. Funds may be used for research-related expenses such as travel, books, supplies and equipment, copying, and research assistance.

Applicants should submit a brief description (no more than three typed pages) that explains the project, its intellectual significance, and the relationship between the research expenses and the project as a whole, as well as a summary budget and a letter of support from the adviser, to Dr. Harry Watson, Director, Center for the Study of the American South.   Announcements are made in April of the award year.
